Volvo Announces Major U.S. Vehicle Recall
Volvo Cars has initiated a large-scale recall in the United States, impacting more than 413,000 vehicles, after discovering a malfunction linked to the rearview camera system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from software errors that may prevent the camera image from displaying correctly.
Models and Production Years Affected
The recall applies specifically to Volvo XC40 vehicles manufactured between the 2021 and 2025 model years. These vehicles were previously subject to a similar recall, making this the second corrective action involving the same models in the U.S. market.
Cause of the Rearview Camera Problem
Volvo confirmed that the latest recall follows the discovery of an additional software-related defect that leads to the same camera failure identified earlier. Although the symptoms remain unchanged, the underlying cause required further technical intervention to ensure long-term reliability.
Software Update and Fix Timeline
To resolve the issue, Volvo will deploy a remedial software update at no cost to customers. The fix will be available either through authorized dealerships or via an over-the-air (OTA) update, allowing owners to update their vehicles remotely. Volvo expects the OTA rollout to begin in the coming weeks.
