⚡ A New Era for Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo
Lamborghini has officially confirmed a major evolution in its motorsport lineup — the Temerario Super Trofeo, set to debut in 2027. But with this announcement comes a bittersweet farewell: the end of the legendary 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that has defined Lamborghini’s racing soul for over a decade.
The new generation brings a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, marking a shift toward efficiency, compactness, and compliance with global emissions standards. While smaller in displacement, this powerhouse introduces new performance possibilities — delivering 650 horsepower in race trim.
And for purists worried about hybrid complexity, there’s good news: Lamborghini has dropped the hybrid system altogether for reasons of weight and cost, ensuring that the Super Trofeo remains a pure, lightweight racing machine.
🏎️ From Huracán to Temerario: The Next Super Trofeo Champion
First unveiled as concept sketches, the Temerario Super Trofeo will make its competitive debut across the European, North American, and Asian Super Trofeo championships beginning in 2027.
It succeeds the Huracán Super Trofeo, introduced in 2015, and becomes the sixth model in Lamborghini’s historic one-make racing lineage — a series that has grown to rival and even outperform the Ferrari Trofeo and Porsche Carrera Cup in both prestige and global reach.
Since its inception in 2009, Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo series has proven not just a proving ground for racing talent but also a lucrative business, with hundreds of cars sold and a thriving customer racing community.
⚙️ Technical Synergy with GT3 Racing
The Temerario ST follows closely behind the GT3 version, which was unveiled in mid-2024 and will make its competitive debut at the 2026 12 Hours of Sebring.
For the first time in Lamborghini’s history, the Super Trofeo and GT3 will share mechanical components, including the sequential gearbox developed by Hoer.
Ironically, though, the Super Trofeo version will pack more power than the GT3. The latter is restricted to around 585 hp under Balance of Performance (BoP) regulations used in SRO GT championships.
History seems to repeat itself — the Super Trofeo is typically half the price of a GT3 to purchase and maintain, yet it’s often a second faster per lap. The reason? Freedom. Free from strict regulations, Lamborghini’s engineers can focus purely on performance and drivability.
🧠 Engineering for Accessibility and Speed
The Temerario Super Trofeo introduces several technical improvements designed to enhance aerodynamics, control, and driver confidence:
- Increased downforce, thanks to a larger and higher rear wing
- A redesigned front splitter and rear diffuser for optimal airflow
- 12-stage adjustable ABS and traction control systems for customizable handling
Interestingly, the new design is more rational and streamlined than the outgoing Huracán Evo2. It drops the dorsal fin, roof scoop, and heavily vented body panels, resulting in cleaner aerodynamics and lower drag.
Standardized rearview mirrors replace the race-specific units, improving practicality and visibility.
🏁 Tire Supplier Uncertainty After the Hankook Scandal
One notable absence from Lamborghini’s announcement was any reference to a tire supplier — a deliberate move after the Hankook tire failures that plagued several races in 2024, including the opening laps of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Lamborghini has confirmed it will evaluate multiple suppliers before signing an exclusivity deal. The chosen brand will earn the right to equip over 100 Super Trofeo race cars competing globally — a major contract and a critical trust decision after recent controversies.
🔮 Looking Ahead to 2027
The Lamborghini Temerario Super Trofeo represents both an end and a beginning. The retirement of the V10 marks the close of an era — but the dawn of a more technically advanced, efficient, and powerful chapter in Lamborghini’s racing history.
As the Italian automaker prepares for its 2027 debut season, one thing is clear: the Super Trofeo remains the benchmark in one-make racing, and the Temerario is poised to defend that legacy — with a vengeance.
