Alibaba Unveils Quark AI Glasses
Alibaba has officially announced the pricing and release schedule for its Quark AI Glasses, a major step into the consumer AI market. The smart eyewear will start at 4,699 yuan ($659.37), with discounted pre-sale pricing of 3,999 yuan. Pre-orders begin October 24 on Alibaba’s Tmall platform, and shipments are set to start in December.
The Quark AI Glasses are powered by Alibaba’s Qwen large language model and Quark AI assistant, offering a hands-free computing experience with features such as:
- Hands-free calling
- Music streaming
- Real-time language translation
These glasses mark Alibaba’s entry into wearable AI, directly competing with Meta’s smart glasses, developed with Ray-Ban, and Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi, which also launched AI glasses this year.
AI Chat Assistant: Alibaba’s ChatGPT Rival
Alongside the glasses, Alibaba unveiled its AI Chat Assistant, a new chatbot mode integrated into the existing Quark app. Powered by Qwen3 models, the assistant combines AI search and conversation in one interface, allowing users to interact via text or voice.
Key functions of the AI Chat Assistant include:
- Photo editing
- Photo-based problem solving
- AI-powered writing
Alibaba aims to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other emerging chatbots with this consumer-focused tool, reinforcing its strategy of bringing AI directly to end-users rather than just businesses.
Alibaba’s AI Push
The launch of AI glasses and a consumer chatbot highlights Alibaba’s growing emphasis on AI for everyday users. Earlier this year, the company released updates to its large language models while boosting its cloud computing business, which powers much of its AI services.
The Hangzhou-based tech giant’s stock reflected investor optimism, rising 1.7% in Hong Kong and also gaining in U.S. premarket trading.
Alibaba’s move signals a broader trend where wearables and AI-driven apps are becoming the next frontier in computing, challenging the dominance of smartphones and setting the stage for a new era of consumer technology.
Alibaba is making a bold move into consumer AI with its Quark AI Glasses and AI Chat Assistant, targeting everyday users while competing with major players like Meta, Xiaomi, and OpenAI. With pre-orders starting October 24 and shipping in December, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of the next wave in wearable technology and AI-driven interaction.
